Photography has brought me to a cramped dressing room to make pictures of the hairy, sweaty, 6’3” drag queen, Martha Graham Cracker, and an afternoon spent drinking margaritas and watching the muppets with indie hip hop artist Spank Rock and a surprising hug after leaving the tasteful home of Strand of Oak’s leader Tim Showalter. Photography is the reason for these – and many more – fond experiences in my life.
Photography is not only a selfish pleasure, but an outlet for me to record a unique moment in someone’s life. I hope my photos of people can find a place in their own personal timeline, an enduring visual representation of a character like no combination of words could express.
I am a photographer, writer and barbecuer who often prefers beer that comes in 16oz cans. To me, there’s nothing else like a leisurely summer night bike ride through the city. During the day, I digitize rare archives for a university library. At night, I study journalism as a graduate student. And in my spare time, I am an editor, writer and photographer at Jump, a Philly-focused print music magazine.
